New 2010 Winter Bagua/Xingyi Class Session

Adison Martin and Ken Craggs will be following their last Baguazhang/Xingyiquan class session with another 9-weeks, beginning on December 12th, 2009. This session will go until February 20th, with a 2-weekend break on December 26th and January 2nd for Winter Break.

The classes will continue to be held on Saturdays.

Baguazhang runs from 11:00am - 12:30pm.
Xingyiquan runs from 12:30pm - 2:00pm.

The next YMAA Boston Test will be on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 1:00pm.

Shaolin and Taijiquan testing will be held concurrently this time to save on time. If you are testing, please pre-register at least 1 week before the testing date ($10). The testing fee is $15 from 1 week before until the day of. No fee to watch. Everyone's invited!

Thanksgiving Holiday 2009

YMAA Boston will be closed for the holiday on Thanksgiving day, and the day after Thanksgiving (November 26th and 27th).

Columbus Day - No Kids Class or Tumbling

Baguazhang Classes Back in Session

Baguazhang means "Eight Trigrams Palm". It is widely-accepted that Baguazhang originated from the Emei Mountain in China. Like many internal styles, it is beneficial to your health in addition to being a very intricate martial art. Through circular patterns and movements, Baguazhang emphasizes the use of freely-flowing Qi to energize your body's muscles and strengthen your internal body, improving health and vitality. It is a style that incorporates short, middle, and long range fighting through offensive and defensive techniques.

Whether you practice for health, for martial arts, or for both, Baguazhang is sure to be a valuable skillset to add to your knowledge and training.

New Xingyiquan Session Starts Sept. 12th

Ken Craggs will be offering an 11-class session on Xingyiquan beginning on September 12th. There is an additional discount for YMAA students!

Xingyiquan (Hsing Yi Chuan) is a popularly known Chinese internal martial art. Literally translated, it means "Shape Mind Fist." It is based on the movements and inner characteristics of 12 animals. The style was created by Marshal Yue Fei, a famous Chinese general of the Song Dynasty during wartime. Unlike most martial arts, Xingyiquan was created during to be more aggressive and offensive.

Xingyiquan is an internal art, and like Taijiquan, it improves Qi circulation in the body and maintains health. It trains you to build abundant levels of internal Qi to strengthen both the physical and mental bodies.
