YMAA History

Yang's Martial Arts Association (YMAA) is an international martial arts organization and community that embraces traditional training, self-discipline, and martial morality. YMAA was conceptualized, established, and realized by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. All around the world, YMAA offers classes, seminars, and instruction in Shaolin Long Fist, Shaolin White Crane, Taijiquan, and Qigong. Dr. Yang has over 35 years of martial arts experience and is a world-renowned teacher and author.

Mission Statement

From its conception until today, YMAA has always maintained a very strong vision of its training, students, and goals, not only in Boston but all over the world. We are a traditional Chinese Kung-Fu school seeking to preserve this ancient art through sharing our knowledge, training together, and building a global community.

Master Yang, Jwing-Ming

YMAA was founded in Boston by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming in 1982 on the idea of preserving and sharing his knowledge of martial arts and Qigong with the world. Dr. Yang has had an extensive background in martial arts, learning directly from several masters in Taiwan during the post-World War II era. He has come a very long way from his training days to the establishment of YMAA.

Ranking System

To maintain the quality, integrity, and standards of YMAA training, all of YMAA International follow the same standard ranking system. Shaolin and Taijiquan have separate ranking qualifications.

Location

We are located in the Jamaica Plain (JP) district of Boston, across the Forest Hills T-station (subway Orange Line and Commuter Rail Purple Line). We are a 10-minute walk from downtown JP, near the Arnold Arboretum and Forest Hills Cemetery.

Facilities

At YMAA Boston we have 3 large, spacious training studios. All of our classes and seminars take place in these areas. We have an assortment of martial arts weapons and training equipment, including large punching bags, kicking/focus pads, kettlebells, gym mats, bricks, wooden and metal swords/sabers/staffs, spears, and more. The space is available to lease when it is not in use.

YMAA Boston offers competitive rates for training. Prospective students are welcomed to take a free trial week of classes.
