Nutrition is confusing. It seems like every fad diet is supported by science and then refuted by the same science two weeks later. At the risk of posting yet another nutrition article I recommend this article from the Atlantic. It goes into the research behind nutrition science and produces a not too surprising conclusion.
If you don't have time to read it allow me to summarize, your mother's advice was correct, eat your veggies and lay off the junk food.

I'm sure just about every teenager on the planet would prefer to sleep in and start school later. I remember having a lot of trouble getting to high school on time for the 7:30am start.
This New York Times article cites research which has shown that teens tend to have a later sleep cycle than adults.
Most people would be proud to be as strong as Steve Maxwell in their 30s. In this video he's 60 years old. Steve stays this strong by keeping smart in his training.

Remember, it's not just how much movement/exercise you get that matters, it's also the frequency. If you have a desk job try to get up at least every 30 minutes and move around.
