Yoga & Pilates

Overview

Yoga, Sanskrit for "yoke" or "union", has been around for thousands of years. The union that Yoga refers to is of the body and the mind, and the means by which we unite them is the breath. If you can breathe, you can do yoga! At YMAA, we offer classes that combine the best of hatha, kundalini, and yin styles of Yoga to invigorate, strengthen, stretch, and relax the body and mind.

Though thousands of years old, Yoga attracts new students every day. While different styles have been tailored over the years to do different things, all of them have the same objective: to create space in the body and mind. Come explore your strength, flexibility and breath.

Pilates is a physical conditioning method that was created by Joseph Hubertus Pilates nearly a century ago. Mr. Pilates trained numerous athletes under his system in his native Germany, England, and the United States. Although many variations of Pilates now exist, the essence of the system is in the original mat movements. Oftentimes it is hard for new practitioners to believe that when done regularly, these simple movements are actually excellent methods to gain strength, improve flexibility, and balance the body.

Both revolutionary and traditional, Pilates stretches and strengthens your body at the same time. It also focuses on your abs and lower back while streamlining every muscle in your body. Pilates is the paradoxical fitness miracle.
