New Shaolin Schedule Beginning May 12th
Overview
YMAA Boston will be changing the Shaolin training schedule for both Kids Shaolin and Adult Shaolin. We will begin the new schedule on Monday, May 12th, 2008. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Shaolin for Kids
To accommodate the growing number of students in the kids program and to provide the students with the best experience possible, we have decided to redesign the class structure by age group. We will continue our current kids class for ages 6 - 11 and will be offering a new teens class for ages 12 - 16. We feel this new structure will allow for a more age-specific curriculum, better addressing individual student needs and allowing for a more enriching and exciting experience for the class as a whole. By popular request, we are keeping the hours the same, but we need to change one of the days instead. New classes will be as follows:
Mondays & Wednesdays:
Kids 4:45pm – 5:55pm
Teens 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Saturdays:
Kids & Teens: 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Saturday class will include both age groups for the first 30-45 minutes of training, after which the two groups will be divided so they can work on the training material in their respective levels and qualification ranks. We will also be instituting a mentoring program for older kids who exhibit interest, dedication, and a desire to excel in the training. Qualified students who successfully and consistently assist with classes may be eligible to receive a tuition discount in exchange for their help.
Adult Shaolin
YMAA Boston will be changing the schedule for Adult Shaolin classes, along with the kids and teens program, to allow for more individual attention to students' training, and to better distribute instructors' teaching times throughout the week. The new schedule will be:
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays:
Adult Shaolin 9:00am – 11:00am
Tuesdays & Thursdays:
Adult Shaolin 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Saturdays:
Adult Shaolin 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Although there will be less class meeting times, there will usually be at least one training studio available for open practice on non-class days. Instructors will be available during most of these times for assistance in students' individual practice. We believe that 1-on-1 time with instructors will be more beneficial in advancing a student's training. Also, please note that while classes end at 7:30pm during the weekdays, instructors will be more than happy to stay at the school longer to help students work on their respective training material for their current stripe level. Instructors will stay until at least 8:00pm on weekdays and 5:00pm on Saturdays on a regular schedule.
