ADULT'S RANKING SYSTEMS

All of YMAA International follow the same standard ranking system. Shaolin and Taijiquan have separate ranking qualifications. YMAA students worldwide follow this training schedule and normally do not skip levels. In exceptional circumstances, a student may learn material outside of their ranking qualification.

YMAA Levels are represented by stripes worn on the side of the pants. Shaolin on the right leg, Tai Chi on the left. ​

Shaolin Kung Fu Ranking System

Before testing for their 1st stripe material students must pass a Fundamentals test.

Shaolin Kung Fu Fundamentals
  • 9 basic longfist stances
  • 5 basic longfist kicks
  • 5 basic white crane blocking patterns
  • 6 basic longfist strikes
  • 3 basic longfist block/punch techniques 
  • 5 basic stepping patterns
  • Tan Tui #1,2,3
To earn their first stripe students must pass four items.


Shaolin Kung Fu 1st Stripe Material
  • Lian Bu Quan- Continuos stepping sequence. Longfist barehand sequence
  • Pan Shou- Fighting forms #1-5. White crane 2 person matching patterns
  • Shang Xia Zhi- Up & down limbs. White crane 2 person matching sequence
  • Chin Na- Joint lock techniques #1-5
